NEWS UPDATES!
For over a decade, I compiled interviews, archival papers, county records, and family anecdotes to write about the development of travel and tourism along the backroads around my hometown of New Braunfels, Texas.  Woven into this book is the story of my grandfather, Joe Sanders, who compiled the first scenic road map of Comal County.
This recreation history of the Texas Hill Country has something for everyone:
Motoring in the 1920s and 1930s

Tour the Guadalupe River Drive (today's popular "River Road"), the Devil's Backbone, and other scenic byways

Explore forgotten caves and parks

The story of the first county tourist maps and a road marking system

Life and leisure during the Depression

Filled with firsthand accounts

Over 50 historical illustrations--including photos, postcards, and maps
